Travis Etienne's betting odds as of 6/24/2024:
💰 T 43rd “best” odds of winning Offensive Player of the Year
Fantasy Football:
Entering his age 25 season and year 4 in the NFL, Travis Etienne is looking for that 2nd contract and looking to get PAID following the 2024 season.
He's enjoyed a pretty successful start to his career, averaging 17.1 touches and 14.2 PPR points per game over 34 career games, finishing as fantasy's RB 7 in 2022 and RB 3 just last year.
He was an absolute STUD over the first half of 2023, averaging 22.3 touches and 20 PPR points per game over the first 8 games of the season. He scored 20 or more PPR points in 5 of the first 8 tries.
BUT THEN...
As good as Dr. Jekyll was, Mr. Hyde took over in the 2nd half of the season, averaging 16.3 touches for just 13.2 PPR points per game over the final 9 games.
He scored 20 or more PPR points just once in the final 9 tries.
In the end, ETN handled the 3rd most touches in football (325) behind only Christian McCaffrey and Rachaad White, a number that Head Coach Doug Pederson—a longtime "running back by committee" coach—likely does not want to see again in 2024.
During a 4 year stretch as the Eagles' Head Coach between 2016-2019, the Eagles' RB 1 handled just 9.1 - 14.3 touches per game. At absolute most, Miles Sanders averaged 16 touches per game in 2020.
We know from experience AND from Pederson's offseason comments that he WANTS to get another RB involved—ideally 2023 3rd round pick Tank Bigsby—to keep ETN fresh all season.
In other words, ETN handling another 300+ touches seems unlikely in 2024.
A repeat of 2023 is unlikely.
So then what SHOULD we expect from ETN in 2024 fantasy football?
On average, Jaguars RBs touch the ball about 25 times per game in 2 years under Pederson.
I'm projecting ETN for between 14-18 touches per game and Bigsby for another 7-11 touches per game in 2024.
Beware the tiny sample size, but in 12 career games where ETN handled between 14-18 touches, he averaged 13.1 PPR points per game, a rate that WOULD still have been good for an RB 14 finish in 2023.
NOW...one quick thing to admit...
I'm approaching 2024 ETN from what's likely the most pessimistic possible angle. What we're talking about here is probably his FLOOR, not his ceiling.
Still, being drafted as fantasy's RB 9 around pick 32 overall (late 3rd round) where you can instead draft someone like Jaylen Waddle, Josh Allen, Sam LaPorta, Derrick Henry, Cooper Kupp and several others...
ETN is currently ranked 44 overall in BBFF's 2024 Fantasy Football Draft Guide (see below).
In other words, BBFF is going to PASS on Travis Etienne at his current cost in 2024 fantasy football drafts.
