This Week's Beer to Stream:
Third Space Brewing, Unbridled Enthusiasm
For those of you new to fantasy football, or if you are just looking for a new strategy, “Streaming” is the idea of selecting somebody from the Free Agent pool or waiver wire based on favorable matchups. This strategy is particularly effective if you failed to draft an elite player at QB, TE, or DEF.
The NFL changes quite a bit from week to week and year to year, I will try to help alleviate your concerns and focus on players that I would try and stream. This year more than ever (Thanks, COVID) will be difficult to Stream. Most leagues have expanded rosters, so this year, I will be looking at only players who are available in UNDER 50% of Yahoo leagues. All options may not be available in your specific league.
Minshew Mania is back in full swing! Not only could you have streamed his 31 points to a QB8 finish, you also could have streamed Ryan Tannehill’s 30 points for a QB9 finish! Tight End was a little more difficult as Logan Thomas’ 4.6 points were only the TE25, but he was a TD away from being a top option again. That is key at the TE position, predicting a touchdown. DST was even more successful than QB this week with Tampa Bay’s 12 points, the Cardinals 9 points and the Rams 7 points ALL finishing in the top-12 being 4th, 7th and 9th respectively. Check out who is going to get you through week 3 below.
Quarterback
Ryan Tannehill @ MIN, 46% owned
Tanny has scored at least 21pts in each of his first 2 weeks and he gets a Vikings DST that is nowhere near as scary as they have been in years past. The pass rush is slow and their defensive backs are super young. Watch for Tannehill to take advantage.
Gardner Minshew vs MIA, 33% owned
I told you last week, Gardner Minshew will likely be in this article every single week he is under 50% owned! I don’t need to explain why, just look at his mustache.
Mitch Trubisky @ ATL, 8% owned
Gross. I don’t endorse Trubisky as being a starting caliber NFL QB, but I also don’t endorse ATL as an NFL Defense. This is likely the best matchup Trubisky will have all year.
Tight End
Jordan Reed @ NYG, 7% owned
Reed saw, and likely will see all the volume he can handle, as long as he stays on the field. Kittle may come back this week, but the 49ers WR corps is so decimated that I still expect him to command plenty of targets, even from Nick Mullens.
Mo Alie-Cox vs NYJ, 1% owned
MAC had a monster performance last week and this week gets a Jets secondary who no longer has Jamal Adams to slow down opposing TE’s.
Drew Sample @ PHI, 1% owned
C. J. Uzomah is done for the year and Sample saw 9 targets in his absence. I don’t expect Burrow to throw nearly as much, but Sample is as good a streaming option as any.
Defense/Special Teams
Cleveland Browns vs WAS, 17% owned
Cleveland should be playing with a positive game script. That sentence made me cringe because it depends on which Baker Mayfield shows up. The more times Haskins has to drop back to pass, the better.
LA Chargers vs CAR, 31% owned
Carolina just lost their best weapon. With little else to respect on the offensive side of the ball, and all the talent they have, the Chargers could put up some points.
Indianapolis Colts vs NYJ 43% owned
I feel like playing any DST against the Jets is a good idea at this point. I don’t think I need to go further.
Stay tuned next week to see the results from all the players mentioned above, as well as my streamers for next week. Follow me on Twitter for more updates and insight @jjgosh
