Fantasy Football:

The Houston Texans are entering year 2 of the DeMeco Ryans era, one that’s off to a terrific start after a 2023 Division title just 1 year after the Texans went 3-13-1 and landed the 2nd overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Of course, that 2nd overall pick was CJ Stroud, who became an instant star in year 1.

After finishing 30th in scoring and 31st in offensive yards just 1 year prior, the Stroud-led Texans finished an encouraging 13th in scoring and 12th in offensive yards in 2023.

They were above-average in the passing game, finishing 12th in pass attempts, 7th in passing yards and 12th in TD passes, albeit while subpar in the running game, finishing 20th in rushing attempts, 22nd in rushing yards and 23rd in rushing TDs.

Their team success showed up at the individual level as well, where:

🔥 CJ Stroud finished as fantasy’s QB 9 despite ranking 14th among QBs in pass attempts and completions. He averaged 18.4 fantasy points per game over 15 games, a rate that would have made him fantasy’s QB 6 had he played all 17.

🔥 Nico Collins finished as fantasy’s WR 12 despite finishing 25th among WRs in targets. He averaged 17.4 PPR points per game across 15 games, a rate that would have made him fantasy’s WR 5 had he played all 17 games.

Where should Nico Collins and Tank Dell land in 2024 fantasy football rankings?

🔥 Tank Dell finished as fantasy’s WR 39 despite playing in just 11 games and finishing 56th among WRs in targets. He averaged 15 PPR points per game during those 11 contests, a rate that would have made him fantasy’s WR 13 had he played in all 17 games (of course, there’s some negative TD regression concerns that we’ll address in Dell’s profile).

🔥 Dalton Schultz finished as fantasy’s TE 10, averaging 10 PPR points per game and finishing top 12 among TEs in targets (88), catches (59), yards (635) and TDs (5).

Of course, as can be expected considering their lack of team success in the running game, it was ugly at the individual level as well:

🧊 Devin Singletary averaged just 9.8 PPR points per game and finished as fantasy’s RB 32 despite finishing 21st in the NFL in touches and 26th among RBs in scrimmage yards. He didn’t score many TDs (4), tying for 37th among RBs in touchdowns from scrimmage (4).

🧊 Seemingly a terrible fit in Bobby Slowik’s scheme, Dameon Pierce lost his starting job and averaged just 5.5 PPR points per game. He finished as fantasy’s RB 55 despite finishing 38th among running backs in touches (158). He averaged a sickening 2.9 yards per carry just one year after an encouraging 4.3 yards-per-carry rookie campaign.

Heading into 2024, the Texans hope to have fixed their running game by bringing in career workhorse Joe Mixon, a 28 year old running back who’s averaging 19.1 touches and 88.2 scrimmage yards per game in his 97 game career.

Mixon’s finished top 14 in 5 of 7 seasons in the NFL.

And in the passing game? The rich got richer, adding 31 year old Stefon Diggs to the mix, a guy who’s finished top 12 or better in 5 of the last 6 seasons and already sits 56th overall in the NFL’s all-time leading receiver list.

Indeed, Vegas sportsbooks are expecting continued success for the Texans, projecting them for over 9.5 wins with a 2nd consecutive AFC South title. They have the 5th best odds of representing the AFC in the Super Bowl and—strangely enough—are tied for the 4th best odds of winning the entire thing.

And as for fantasy football? Houston is projected to finish 9th in the NFL in scoring.

It's easy—and correct—to expect fireworks from one of the most highly touted offenses heading into the 2024 season; there will be fantasy football points galore in this offense.

BUT...

All of the excitement has created expensive price tags in 2024 fantasy football.

Where should Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs, Tank Dell and Dalton Schultz land in 2024 fantasy football rankings?

Heck, EACH of their top 3 WRs go off the board before the 3rd round is even over (no other team's WR 3 goes off the board before round 6).

And with so many mouths to feed in Houston, the question is "Who IS and ISN'T worth their price tag in 2024 fantasy football?"

Check out episode 23 of "Inside the 20" (video above) where we dive DEEP into the details to uncover whether or not you should SMASH or PASS on Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs, Tank Dell, Joe Mixon and Dalton Schultz at their respective costs!
