2024 Fantasy Football Rankings: NFL Vets that Survived the NFL Draft - Rashid Shaheed

👆 Episode 16 of "Inside the 20" covers NFL vets that survived the NFL Draft and now look like targets in 2024 fantasy football. 👆

Rashid Shaheed—and Chris Olave, by the way 🚀—received minimal competition for targets after the New Orleans Saints waited until pick 170—the 35th pick in the 5th round—to select their only pass catcher of the draft, nabbing Pittsburgh WR Bub Means, a guy who's still new to playing the position after he began his collegiate career as a defensive back for the Tennessee Volunteers.

Means has terrific speed, but has plenty of development in front of him and likely doesn’t have the “means” (get it?) to unseat Shaheed as the Saints’ WR 2, at least in year 1.

Michael Thomas is gone, opening the door for Shaheed to begin the season as the full time WR 2 in Nawlins after enjoying a modest 10.1 PPR points and 5 targets per game with Derek Carr last season.

The Saints DID sign Cedrick Wilson and Equanimeous St. Brown from free agency, and they drafted AT Perry in the 6th round last year.

But Perry is an uninspiring 6th round pick, Wilson fell out of favor for the WR 3 role in Miami, and ESB never capitalized on wide open opportunity in Chicago.

In other words, it's highly unlikely that any of them are especially close to Shaheed in line for WR 2 duties, likely locking Shaheed into 2 WR sets in a Derek Carr offense that finished 9th in passing attempts, 11th in passing yards and 8th in passing TDs last season.

Shaheed is currently being drafted as fantasy's WR 60 around pick 138 overall, average draft position that he should have no trouble outperforming if he just hangs on to the WR 2 role.

And as for former 11th overall pick Chris Olave, he’s entering year 3—a historical breakout year for young WRs—after averaging 14.3 PPR points and 8.6 targets per game in his first season with Derek Carr last year.

He’s set for liftoff under new Offensive Coordinator Klint Kubiak, which I discussed in great detail in episode 5 of my podcast and YouTube Show, Inside the 20. 🚀

Olave and Shaheed are both clear winners coming out of the draft, especially Shaheed.
